The Blood Tribe The Tribal Government & External Affairs is a department dedicated to preserving and protecting the land, political and legal rights of the Blood Tribe and is responsible for land claims, treaty and aboriginal rights issues and governance. Through its mandate, the Tribal Government & External Affairs asserts and protects our aboriginal rights in ensuring that the spirit and intent of the Treaties be fulfilled and protected. Also, that our inherent right to govern is asserted and protected. With Kainaysinni as a guiding framework, the Tribal Government & External Affairs facilitates the resolution of outstanding land claims and other claims against Canada, and is involved in the advancement and protection of treaty and aboriginal rights and the continued development and implementation of the Blood Tribe government systems. Included in its responsibilities are the protection and preservation of treaty and aboriginal rights and natural resources such as water, minerals, oil, gas, timber and our air space. The department also provides advice on policy matters with federal and provincial governments and advice respecting policy on relations with other First Nations including national, provincial and regional organizations. The department also assists in the legislative and public policy processes; is involved in the development of the Kainai Justice model focusing on the traditional concept of peacemaking. In keeping with its mandate, the Tribal Government & External Affairs ensures that all Blood Tribe developments and initiatives do not conflict with the Tribe’s political positions and that there are no adverse impacts on claims in process and on treaty and aboriginal rights and Blood Tribe jurisdictions. Our elders are utilized by the Tribal Government & External Affairs for their guidance, knowledge and traditional understanding of issues pertaining to Blood worldview, traditions and customs as they relate to the protection and preservation of land, treaty and aboriginal rights and governance.
